Duties:

  • Ensure all D&B activities comply to HSE policies;
  • Develop Drill & Blast design parameters to support optimal mine operations – including safe operations, optimal performance and minimal dilution;
  • Plan and manage the design and implementation of drilling and blasting field requirements;
  • Participate in planning process to ensure optimal integration of D&B activities in overall mining sequence and optimal utilization of drilling equipment;
  • Advise planning and mine production personnel on issues relating to mine design, production drilling and blasting activities;
  • Drill and blast cost planning as well as reconciliation, monitoring and improvement of cost;
  • Maintain D&B database and consumable ordering and stock levels;Participate in Mine to Mill optimisation projects;
  • Manage QAQC process and staff;
  • Actively participate in Geotechnical Wall Control and Wall sign-off procedures;
  • Design, implement and evaluate trials on D&B design criteria to further reduce costs and improve productivity;
  • Mentor & train national staff in field of specialization.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrable experience in multiple pit surface operations;
  • Sound knowledge of technical D&B aspects;
  • Previous experience working in West Africa;
  • Language skills: English (necessary) & French (desirable);
  • High level of computer literacy with specialized mining software such as Surpac, Shotplus or similar;
  • Basic education: B.Eng. / MSc Mining or relevant diploma;
  • Work experience: 5 year minimum relevant experience in Mining Engineering in an open pit environment with at least 2 years spent in D&B engineering;
  • Previous experience in control blasting environments will be favourable;
