Duties:

    Supervision and management of all areas of mining operations in compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental, Community and Regulatory requirements;
    Review development, and ensure quality, reliability and linkage between Annual Strategic Business Plans, three (3) to five (5)-year Operations Plans, Annual Budget Plans, and Annual Reserves;
    Ensure mining operations are aligned with Business Units and Corporate Strategy; continually review every aspect of mining to ensure that opportunities to add value and increase shareholder wealth are identified and implemented;
    Responsible for Corporate and Business Units mining departments; ensure adherence and compliance with mining technical services systems, and employees meet technical qualifications;
    Develop and implement monitoring systems and procedures to ensure compliance with annual budget mining plans, mining fleet availability and efficiencies are met, all mining costs are optimised and that all adverse variations are reported, followed up and remedied;
    Carrying out risk assessments on new tasks and developing procedures before new activities are undertaken; and
    Project management responsibilities include the mining operational and technical aspects for each project including; of mine optimisation, mining method selection and design, mining and auxiliary fleet selection, develop schedules aligned with optimal project strategy, capital and operating cost estimation, mining contract development and award, all to hand over stage to site operations. For each of the projects developed the technical and operations revenue forecast.

Requirements:

    Must have a postgraduate qualification in mining engineering;
    Working experience in leading mining global companies;
    Open pit and underground mining experience;
    Experience in both technical and operations roles;
    Extensive knowledge of mining operations management; including safety and environmental controls, ore reserve determination, mine optimisation studies, mining method selection and mine design, mining fleet selection, mine infra-structure design, mine production management, and contract negotiations;
    Broad knowledge and understanding of gold processing technology, financial and risk analysis and corporate governance;
    Experience in operational efficiency improvement associated with optimising production output/costs during low commodity price conditions;
    Experience in working/managing international teams; should have international experience (West Africa a must, and Russia & Kazakhstan a plus) and ability to work across diverse geographies and cultures; willingness to travel extensively;
    Demonstrable experience in leading/mentoring/coaching staff;
    Able to operate in the corporate environment, but be primarily field focused; able to balance strategic visions and execution capabilities to deliver results; hands on and detailed with ability to see the big picture and to contribute to business development;
    Possessing good organisational and people skills;
    Good fit with Nordgold culture and values of safety, respect for people, professionalism and efficiency and teamwork;
    Language abilities: preferably speak 2 languages between English, Russian and French
    Proven leadership and communication skills;
    Organised and structured approach, ability to multi-task and prioritise;
    Conceptual, analytical and strategic skills and a vigorous thought process; and
    Team player, striving for excellence, open to continuous improvement, yet receptive to criticism.
